Q: Does electrolysis really work?

Yes! Electrolysis, when done correctly, is a permanent solution for unwanted hairs. It works on all hair colours and skin pigments.

Q: Will it hurt?

Like waxing, some people find the treatment uncomfortable, and others don’t mind it at all. Certain areas of the body are more sensitive than others and may feel more uncomfortable. While you should expect some discomfort for a procedure that permanently destroys hair follicles, most people find it to be more comfortable than expected.

Q: How much will it cost?

We perform electrolysis by the hour. There are no generic prices for specific body areas, like lasers and waxing, because electrologists treat and destroy each hair the same way, regardless of its location on the body. Treatment done on an area with a large hair volume will take longer than treatment done on a similar area with only a small amount of hair. In other words, it’s not the size of the area but rather how much hair is in the area that makes the difference.

The only way to accurately determine how much a specific area will cost is to schedule a consultation. Without seeing your treatment area, your electrologist can’t determine how much hair you have. Once we’ve assessed the treatment area, we’ll be able to provide you with a free, personalised quote. Remember, no two people are the same, so no two treatment plans will be the same.

Q: How many sessions does it take?

The number of sessions you need will depend on your hair growth and the amount of hair. Since our bodies grow hair in waves, and not all at once, most people will need a series of treatments to ensure that all active hair is destroyed.

Q: What body areas do you treat?

We can treat almost any area of the body. However, there are limitations to treating hair inside of the ears and nostrils. We can safely treat the rest of the body as long as we can readily access the hair.

Q: Can you treat facial hormone hair?

Yes! Electrolysis is the only hair removal treatment effective on hormone hair, such as PCOS hair or menopause hair. There’s a high risk of triggering excess hair growth with laser treatment, which can leave you with a greater problem than the initial concern. Electrolysis will get rid of hormone hair permanently without any risk of excess hair growth.

Q: What should I do before treatment?

Let the hair grow. For an easy and successful electrolysis treatment, hair should be between 2mm and 4mm long. Anything shorter may preclude treatment. This length allows for easy and comfortable insertion of the probes and quick hair removal. Be sure to drink plenty of water before the appointments as well. For a facial treatment, please arrive with a clean and make-up-free face. For other areas of the body, please shower beforehand.

Q: What should I do after treatment?

Your electrologist will discuss aftercare with you during your treatment and provide an information sheet. If you experience any redness or puffiness, apply ice to the treated area. Keep the area clean and dry for the rest of the day. This means no swimming, saunas, sweating, heavy exercise, etc. You can purchase aftercare cream at the time of treatment.

Q: Does electrolysis scar?

When performed correctly, electrolysis will only cause minor and temporary reactions on the skin. Our qualified electrologists take care to provide the most flawless results. Poorly trained electrologists may cause unintentional scarring. This usually occurs when the practitioner pushes the probes straight into the skin, applies current, and plucks the hair out. This not only doesn’t destroy the hair but is very painful and can leave scars. When in doubt, ask to see your electrologist’s qualifications and seek out reviews on their work.

Q: Who can you treat?

Almost everyone is suitable for electrolysis. At Forever Hair Removal, all people are welcome. We treat men, women, children, and transgender individuals. People under 18 require a parent or guardian to attend the consult and sign the waiver.

Q: Who can’t you treat?

People with programmable medical implants, including pacemakers, cochlear implants, and neurostimulators, are not suitable for electrolysis treatments, as the currents used in treatment may affect their devices. We also choose not to perform treatment on women who are pregnant. Although there is no known risk, it is a precaution we prefer to take.

People with sensitive skin, broken skin, or aggravated skin should discuss their situation with their doctor and electrologist before treatment. Anyone taking Roaccutane should finish the treatment before commencing electrolysis due to the increased skin sensitivity.
